Sweet, Delicious Stimulants
Presented by Jill Furst Lecturer,Penn Museum and Professor of Art History, Moore College of Art & Design
Explore the history of coffee, tea, and chocolate in the Western world in this fascinating slide lecture. By the 18th century, Europeans and Americans had established (or rejected) the rituals of drinking these beverages, and had developed specialized utensils and implements for preparing and serving them. Within a country, what you drank depended on your class, race, politics, and gender. Dr. Furst’s presentation will include illustrations of art from the 17th through 19th centuries, and of implements, utensils, and houses.
