New Fencing Coming to Davis Elementary

The Centennial School Board approved adding fencing around the Davis Elementary School playground.

Davis Elementary School students will be easier to supervise and less likely to fall down the school's steep hill during recess once a perimeter fence is installed, officials said.

The Centennial School Board this week approved a $16,500 fencing installation bid from Evergreen Fence Inc., to cover the addition of a fence around the school's playground.

"Enclosing the space helps to minimize the likelihood that a student will wander onto an adjacent property," Thomas Golden, the district's assistant facilities manager wrote in an inter office memo. "At the same time the physical barrier decreases the likelihood of unscheduled neighborhood visitors, be they pets or people, during the school day. The fencing prevents students from accidentally falling down the hill while their attention is focused on a recess game."

Evergreen Fence Inc., was the lowest of six bids the district received for the work. The company came in almost $12,000 less than the highest bidder, Mayfair Fence Inc., who quoted $28,430.

Board member Kati Driban told Patch following the meeting that "We’re doing little things as we go with Davis."
