School District Plans for Hurricane Sandy’s Impact

Hurricane Sandy could affect openings and dismissals at Bensalem schools early next week.

The Bensalem Township School District issued a letter (attached to this story as a PDF document) to parents Friday regarding the potential impact of Hurricane Sandy to the area next week.

According to the letter, the district’s Emergency Preparedness Team of Administrators and the Bensalem Township Police Department will be maintaining a careful watch of the weather this weekend and into the early part of next week.

“Many factors go into making any decision to close schools and the impact of closing on our families,” said Superintendent David Baugh. “We wanted to communicate to parents that (Public Safety) Director Harran has expressed the potential of an early dismissal on Monday and/or delayed opening or closing on Tuesday if the storm impacts our immediate area.”

In the event of an early dismissal or school closure, the District will make every effort to communicate by every means possible:

  • Its website at www.bensalemsd.org
  • District TV on Comcast Cable 28 or Verizon FiOS Channel 32
  • TV news reports on CBS 3, ABC 6, NBC 10 and Fox 29.
  • Radio reports on WBCB 1490 AM and KYW 1060 AM

“The Bensalem Township School District works closely with Township and County officials as well as the American Red Cross to provide shelter in the event that a portion of the community needs to be evacuated during an emergency,” Baught noted. “We hope all our families will be safe during this upcoming storm and find comfort in the fact that if the need arises, we will be there to support you.”
