Help Support an Olympic Dream

High school freshman, Kelsey Timte, and family hope to raise money at a Beef and Beer event in order to send Kelsey to London to perform with her choral group at the 2012 Olympics.

will host a Beef and Beer on Saturday October 15 to help raise money for a William Tennent freshman to join her fellow chorus members at the 2012 Olympics in London.

The Tennent chorus program was notified in July that . The price to send each student to England costs about $3,800. For Kelsey Timte, that could keep her home.

“Finances are tight right now for my family,” Kelsey said. “So it’s hard to get me there.”

Kelsey’s father passed away in May after battling cancer. The fight with cancer and the untimely loss of her dad, Harry, brought about a tight financial situation. Her sister, Lindsay said that their dad worked a lot to provide for the family.

“He always worked,” Lindsay said. “My mom was a stay at home mom.”

Kelsey is one of the very many talented singers in Tennent’s choral group. Her sister sees a big future for Kelsey, and does not want her to miss out on the chance to perform at the Olympics.

“Kelsey is an amazing singer,” Lindsay said. “I cannot wait until this girl is 16 so she can try out for American Idol.”

Aware of her family’s finances, Kelsey took the initiative to take on a part-time job at Tanner’s Brothers. Lindsay and her two neighbors, Amy Holewinski and Jennifer Alexander, began working together to figure out other ways to get Kelsey to London.

Lindsay assured her sister that they are going to work extremely hard to help her.

“We were just telling her that we’re all going to try to help her and do whatever we can to make sure she can go,” Lindsay said.

Holewinski and Alexander wanted to figure out how they can help the Timte family send Kelsey across the pond with her classmates. Holewinski said she heard another friend was having a Beef and Beer for a different cause and decided to try it as a way to raise money.

“We didn’t think she should miss out on an opportunity like that,” Holewinski said.

The event, for patrons 21 and older, will run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the on Street Rd. in Southampton. Tickets will be available at the door on Saturday evening; the cost of $35, covers beer, wine and food.

“This Beef and Beer will hopefully raise money to help me get there so I can go to London and sing with the choir, which is what I’m dying to do,” Kelsey said.
