Stackpole's Spring Concert Features Blooming Musicians

Young musicians from Fred J. Stackpole Elementary performed yesterday before a sold-out crowd in Klinger Middle School's auditorium, welcoming spring with a celebration of their talents and progress.

Klinger Middle School's auditorium played host to Stackpole’s vast array of musically gifted students Monday evening.

There was barely an empty seat in the house as parents, teachers, siblings, and other Southampton residents packed the auditorium to hear the progress their budding musicians had made over the course of the closing school year.

Stackpole’s Spring Concert featured all of the elementary school’s musical ensembles, from the beginners to the road-tested veterans of the fourth and fifth grade orchestra, bands, and chorus.

For Choral Director, Janice Brunner, the concert was the culmination of a year of commendable effort from her students.

“They’re a wonderful group,” said Brunner.  “The kids have worked extremely hard and they’re really excited.”

Brunner was of the notion that introducing children to music early on is a key to tapping into their potential.

“They’re extremely enthusiastic,” she said.  “They absolutely love music at this age.”

Brunner also said that the program included a couple of songs specifically chosen for the kids - music they hear outside of school, on the radio, and have a connection with.

It was certainly an eclectic mix of tunes.

The bands and orchestra focused on the more traditional fare, putting their stamp on such elementary band classics as  Mark Williams’, Centurion  and Celtic Dance.

After five songs between the Fourth Grade Band and the Fourth and Fifth Grade Orchestra, the Fifth Grade Band closed things out with a three song set.  Their grand finale of America, The Beatiful, made way for the combined Fourth and Fifth Grade Chorus.

With more than a score of dancers supporting them at one point, the Chorus tested their voices with six different tunes, culminating in a toe-tapping rendition of Footloose.

“They’ve worked really hard all year and they sound wonderful,” said Band and Orchestra Director, Michael Regosch.  “It’s a good feeling to see their musicality bloom.”
