Countdown begins to Southampton Days 2012

With just two months left, the Southampton Days Committee is busy finalizing all of the details for the annual week-long celebration.

While the finishing touches are still being placed on the master schedule, most of the particulars are in place for this year's Southampton Days Celebration.

The 41st annual country fair will be held from Monday, July 2 until Saturday, July 7, 2012. This year the theme of the celebration is: Our Legacy - Past & Present.

The Southampton Days Committee recently met to discuss finalizing some of the details, the things that often go unnoticed by the general public but are integral to keeping the week-long celebration running smoothly.

Among other things, the group discussed the layout of the infamous Southampton Days program book.

For a $1 donation, fairgoers and community members alike can purchase a program filled with stories and pages-upon-pages of photos from years past. The program also contains a highly coveted bingo coupon, worth one free game under the big tent.

New to the celebration this year – a hot dog eating contest. , organizers decided to add another feat of intestinal strength. Those 17 years of age and older will be able to join the race to eat their fill of frankfurters on Friday, July 6.

If you are interested in registering for either of the food-eating contests or the 3rd annual talent show, follow this link to the group's recently upgraded website.

The group is always looking for more volunteers to join the fun. Want to know how you can help?

While there is always room for more hands during the set up and break down phases of the fair, this year in particular the group has a need for people with convertible vehicles who are willing to drive a veteran through the parade.

The Southampton Days Committee is also looking for any professional photgraphers who might be interested in trading their sevices for credited photos in next year’s Southampton Days Book.

If you can help with either cause, contact the Southampton Days Committee.
