Should DUI Alcohol Limit Be Lowered to .05 Percent?

The National Transportation Safety Board recommends reducing the limit. Some say it would save lives. Others say it's unreasonable.

On Tuesday, the NTSB recommended states lower the blood-alcohol threshold for driving under the influence from 0.08 percent to 0.05 percent. What do you think? Is the proposal reasonable? About 10,000 deaths a year are related to drunken driving. The NTSB says the lower limit would save 500 to 800 lives a year. Officials at the American Beverage Institute called the proposal "ludicrous." It said the average woman could reach the 0.05 percent limit by having one drink. Internationally, only a handful of countries, including Canada, the United States and England, have a BAC limit of .08 while most of the …

PennDOT, Police to Partner for Labor Day DUI Enforcement

The "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" initiative will increase awareness of drugged-driving, according to PennDOT.

PennDOT is partnering with state and local police to take part in a national enforcement effort through Labor Day on September 3, targeting motorists driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. "While overall DUI crashes are trending downward, we're seeing a troubling increase in drug-related crashes each year." PennDOT statistics for 2011 show there were 3,073 drug-related crashes statewide, with 116 fatalities …

DUID (Driving under the influence of drug[s]) is just another police-state scam to compensate loss of revenue due to the decline of alcohol-DUI's. I guess everyone on any prescription medication that is a controlled drug better quit their jobs and sell their car. (And, yes, Rx meds DO count in this ridiculous scheme). IF you get pulled over by the gestapo for suspected DUID, do NOT agree to any …   more ›

State Police to Hold DUI Checkpoint During Memorial Day Weekend

While there’s never a good time to drink and drive, this weekend is an especially bad time to do so in Bucks County.

Troopers from the Trevose station will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint sometime between May 25-28. While the exact location of the checkpoint was not released, it will be held somewhere in Bucks County. According to station commander Sgt. Jonathan Nederostek, a sobriety checkpoint is a traffic safety exercise wherein state troopers systematically stop vehicles at selected locations to briefly observe drivers for articulable facts and/or behaviors normally associated with alcohol or drug impaired drivers. The goal of a sobriety checkpoint is to reduce the number of alcohol and drug related fatal and serious crashes, and to reduce the number of DUI drivers on state highways. According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, 158 people were …

Law Enforcement Officers put their lives on the line every day for us. At the very least, each traffic stop could be the last. We have to be thankful, that sometimes, they are there to help us (by taking care of people who could very well put is in danger) It's much more than just standing around!   more ›

"Getting behind the wheel when you're impaired by drugs or alcohol puts your life in danger, as well as the lives of everyone sharing the road with you. Do everyone a favor by designating a driver," he continued. Eric, you bring up a good point. Yes, by design checkpoints improve the safety of everyone. But is it constitutional? Is it ok to pull someone over without cause if you pull everyone over without cause? No, just equally unfair. Are they a bad thing? Or is the safety they promote worth the infringement on our rights?   more ›

You have to help him!” Costantini said.  He said as he walked closer to the car on the 1800 block of Bristol Road he saw that the roof of the white Mazda 6 had been peeled back, and there was a man inside, laying across the console with several tree branches strewn about him.  “He had a large laceration to his head and he didn’t have a pulse,” said Costantini.  The man was Raymond Bloemker III. According to court documents, Bloemker was Amon’s passenger following a night …
