Police: Driver Who Struck 16-Year-Old Was Funeral Director

Police confirmed rumors that John McGhee was behind the wheel of the car that struck a 16-year-old student on July 25.

Late Friday afternoon police confirmed that local funeral director and deputy county coroner John McGhee, 51, was the driver of the 2007 Chevrolet Impala that struck a 16-year-old girl on Monday, July 25, shortly before 10 p.m. on Maple Aveune. However, police would not confirm that the hit-and-run accident is what lead McGhee to commit suicide in the garage of the funeral home he ran on Belmont Avenue last Wednesday morning. Police and sources tell Patch, McGhee consumed one alcoholic drink at his Hogeland Road home on the evening of July 25 and at around 9:30 p.m. left to pick up some food from a local eatery, which police have not identified. Search Continues for Car Involved in Hit-and-Run

Police are asking for help locating the vehicle involved in Monday night's hit-and-run accident on Maple Avenue.

Police are asking for help from residents in locating the car involved Monday night's hit-and run accident involving a 16-year-old pedestrian. According to witnesses, shortly before 10 p.m. Monday, a car struck Lea Foehl in the eastbound lane of Maple Avenue near Stahl Road. The driver then continued Eastbound towards Second Street Pike, leaving the scene of the accident. Police said their investigation revealed that the striking vehicle is a gold or tan colored Chevrolet Impala manufactured in 2006 through 2012, noting that it is likely the vehicle will have damage to the passenger side front end and a broken headlight housing. Southampton Teen Remains Hospitalized Following Hit-And-Run Accident

Police are still searching for a light colored sedan, following a hit-and-run accident involving 16-year-old pedestrian and Southampton resident Lea Foehl on Maple Avenue Monday evening.

Police are continuing their investigation of a hit-and-run accident that sent a William Tennent High School student to the hospital.   Police and friends of the victim said shortly before 10 p.m., 16-year-old Lea Foehl was struck by a light colored sedan near her home on Maple Avenue near Stahl Road.    According to witnesses, the teenager, was conscious and responding to EMTs commands before she was transported by the Tri-Hampton Rescue Squad to St. Mary's Hospital. Police have not disclosed the extend of Foehl's injuries and the hospital reports she remains in the intensive care unit at the hospital.
