Parents remained positive during Tuesday's dismissal at Davis Elementary School, even though most waited more than 30 minutes to pick up their child.
The district's transportation plan for the new Davis Elementary School seemed to work well, if albeit a little slow, at dismissal time Tuesday afternoon, with only a small amount of traffic backing up on to Maple Avenue. Staff members donned in navy blue Davis Elementary School T-Shirts, helped facilitate the process by taking the names of parents in line and alerting staff in the building to ready the appropriate children. Two members of the Upper Southampton Police Department were also at the school, directing the traffic both in the street and on the lot. Police are searching for the driver of a silver Cadillac who was involved in an accident on Maple Avenue near Hogeland Road Tuesday afternoon.
Police are asking for help in identifying the driver of a car involved in a traffic accident with a bicycle on Tuesday afternoon. The accident occurred around 2:20 p.m. on Maple Avenue near Hogeland Road, when a newer model silver Cadillac with a slanted trunk collided with a cyclist, according to Upper Southampton Police Chief Ron MacPherson. MacPherson said the driver did stop and attempt to render aid following the accident, but was told by the cyclist that he didn't want to file a report and then both left the scene. It was only when the cyclist was located further up the road from the accident that police were contacted. MacPherson said it is important that the Cadillac’s operator information be obtained, for PADOT reporting purposes…

Police confirmed rumors that John McGhee was behind the wheel of the car that struck a 16-year-old student on July 25.
Late Friday afternoon police confirmed that local funeral director and deputy county coroner John McGhee, 51, was the driver of the 2007 Chevrolet Impala that struck a 16-year-old girl on Monday, July 25, shortly before 10 p.m. on Maple Aveune. However, police would not confirm that the hit-and-run accident is what lead McGhee to commit suicide in the garage of the funeral home he ran on Belmont Avenue last Wednesday morning. Police and sources tell Patch, McGhee consumed one alcoholic drink at his Hogeland Road home on the evening of July 25 and at around 9:30 p.m. left to pick up some food from a local eatery, which police have not identified. Police are asking for help from residents in locating the car involved Monday night's hit-and run accident involving a 16-year-old pedestrian. According to witnesses, shortly before 10 p.m. Monday, a car struck Lea Foehl in the eastbound lane of Maple Avenue near Stahl Road. The driver then continued Eastbound towards Second Street Pike, leaving the scene of the accident. Police said their investigation revealed that the striking vehicle is a gold or tan colored Chevrolet Impala manufactured in 2006 through 2012, noting that it is likely the vehicle will have damage to the passenger side front end and a broken headlight housing.
