3rd Annual Holiday Railfest This Weekend

The event benefits the restoration efforts of the Southampton Railroad Station Society.

The Southampton Railroad Station Society's third annual Holiday Railfest will be held this Saturday at the North and Southampton Reformed Church. The event lasts from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature displays and exhibits by various railroad-related groups, including a model of the infamous 1921 Bryn Athyn train wreck. The Southampton Fire Company will also have some equipment on display at the event. Vendors selling items such as toy and model trains, locomotive-based artwork and many other fascinating gift ideas for any railroad enthusiast will also be present. Little ones who attend can have their face painted or take a ride with Santa on a replica steam train.  Tickets are $5; children under the age of 12 are free but must be …

Several SEPTA Schedules to Change in September

If you rely on SEPTA for your commute, you may want to make note of the numerous schedule changes that will go into effect starting next week.

  SEPTA recently updated several of its transporation schedules, and some of the changes will begin to take effect as early as next week. For Regional Rail riders, changes to the Warminster Line will begin on Sept 8. You can view the new schedule for the Warminster Line by clicking here. SEPTA has also updated the schedules of its other Regional Rail lines, as well as several bus and trolley routes across both the city and suburban divisions. Service Suspended on Warminster Rail Line Friday Morning

A downed wire forced SEPTA to shut down the R2 line for almost four hours.

Early commuters arrived at the Warminster train station Friday morning to an unwelcome sight when they were informed that service on the R2 rail line had been suspended. A downed wire south of the Roslyn station forced SEPTA to shut down the R2 and advise commuters to find an alternate route. Assistant Conductor Matt Carcel stood outside the Warminster station to point travelers toward nearby stations that would take them to Center City. Those without cars were told to ride the route 22 bus outside Wal-Mart to the Glenside station on the Doylestown line. The downed wire was discovered around 6 a.m., and crews managed to fix the problem and get the trains moving again by 9:30. The cause of the problem has not been determined, but press …
