Residential Blaze Spread from Fire Pit

Upper Southampton fire crews worked late Monday night extinguishing a fire that spread from a fire pit.

No. 1 Chief Tom Brown said the fire, which began after 11 p.m. Monday in the Burgundy Hills development, originally started in an outside fire pit and spread from its original location. The fire could have been prevented altogether.  "The take away for residents is that Upper Southampton Township has an ordinance that prohibits open burning regardless of the container," Brown said.   According to the township's ordinance pertaining to the restrictions on open burning, "all fires shall be tended by a competent adult person until such fire is extinguished, …

Gas Prices Start a Seasonal Climb

Find the cheapest gas in Upper Southampton.

The national average for self-serve gas has increased for 10 straight days to the highest price in more than a month, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report. The national average this for a gallon is $3.588, up 4.9 cents from last week, but still about 14 cents lower than a year ago. But according to the report, the year over year difference will likely continue to fade due to higher crude oil prices and refinery maintenance that decreases supply. In Bucks and Montgomery counties, gas prices went up 5 cents since last week, making the average price $3.530, that’s .3 cents less than a month ago and 25.9 lower than last year’s prices. Artists to Give Tamanend Park a Splash of Color

Nearly two dozen painters will display their works of art inside Tamanend Park's Carriage House as part of the annual art show on Saturday.

Watercolors and pastels and acrylics, oh my! Tamanend Park will be teeming with artistic treasures, ranging from greeting cards and hand-painted silk scarves to prints, framed artwork and matted pieces painted by about 22 area artists, during Saturday's annual art show, according to Upper Southampton painter Linda Ritter. The exhibit and sale is slated for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Carriage House and is being held in conjunction with–but separate from–the Tamanend Park flea market. "This is just for us," Ritter said of the art show, which features works created by Just Painters, a group that meets and creates in the Ivyland studio of long-time art teacher Miriam Warfield. "Some people come for the herb sale and see us and come in ... Some …

Tamanend Park to Host Vendors, Artists, Herbs

More than two dozen vendors, plus local artists and herb garden sales are planned for Saturday at Tamanend Park.

The weather could determine if Andy Pickford registers a dozen more vendors for Saturday's Tamanend Park flea market, or just holds steady with the 26 who already signed up to sell their wares.  "Usually this week is when I get a lot of the vendors," said Pickford, vice president of the Friends of Tamanend ParkThey always base it on the weather. Usually they’ll call later in the week." And that's OK with Pickford, who said "we have plenty of room" to accommodate more than the 26 vendors registered so far.   Besides vendors selling wares ranging from CDs, household items and more, the Friends will be selling food and beverages with proceeds benefitting various Tamanend Park beautification and maintenance projects. "We don’t really look at …
