After a year of negotiations and more than four months of working under an expired contract, Upper Southampton Township officials and the police collective bargaining unit have agreed to adhere to the results of binding arbitration. Township Manager Joseph Golden said an arbitration hearing was held earlier this month to detail the contractual requests of the township and members of the township police in the collective bargaining unit, according to a story on PhillyBurbs.com. It will be several months before results of the binding arbitration are announced, the story said. State law prohibits police from striking.

Upper Southampton Township Parks and Recreation Department is looking for lifeguards and camp counselors.
It may still be snowy outside, but the Upper Southampton Township Parks and Recreation Department is already thinking ahead to summer. It released it's Spring/Summer 2013 Guide last week and is now hiring lifeguards and camp counselors for teens looking for summer work. The counselors work five hours a day, Monday through Friday; you must be 16 and can apply by walking into the Southampton Community Center and asking for an application. The department is looking for two lifeguards for the Klinger Pool from June 20 to Aug. 30, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You must have one year experience and a current certification. The annual Easter egg hunt in Tamanend park is this weekend.
The township's annual Easter egg hunt will be held Saturday, March 23 at Tamanend Park. The fun begins at 11 a.m. Any child from ages 3 through 8 years old can participate. Prizes will be awarded for finding the special eggs.

The Upper Southampton Township Board of Supervisors are scheduled to meet Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m.
The Board of Supervisors will meet Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the lower level meeting room at the Southampton Free Library. Several topics are on the meeting agenda. Among the items listed, the board will discuss authorizing advertisement of an ordinance establishing regulations for digital signs, as well as discuss the hiring of a planner/consultant to implement portions of the township's comprehensive plan. In addition, the floor will be open for public comment at the beginning of the meeting, and the community is invited to discuss anything that is not on the evening's agenda.

The Upper Southampton Township Board of Supervisors adopted the 2013 budget and approved a new rental fee schedule Tuesday evening.
The Upper Southampton Township Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted the township's 2013 budget Tuesday evening. The budget keeps the real estate tax rate at 21.88 mills, the same as for 2012; trash collection fees will also remain unchanged. Read: Supervisors Hold Line on Taxes Supervisors also voted to approve a new fee schedule proposed by the parks and recreation board Tuesday evening. This will change the rate schedule for the rental of township facilities. The new schedule does not account for the time of the proposed rental (i.e. weekday vs. weekend) and instead charges one hourly rate for residents and another for non residents. The Upper Southampton Township Board of Supervisors proposed a balanced budget with no additional real estate taxes for 2013.
Upper Southampton Township will not be asking for an increase in real estate taxes for 2013. "I am absolutely pleased that there is no tax increase, that the budget is balanced and that we can move forward," said Township Supervisor Lola Biuckians. The proposed budget that the board of supervisors proffered at its meeting Tuesday evening kept the real estate tax rate at 21.88 mills, the same as for 2012. Trash collection fees also remained unchanged. Township Manager Joe Golden said the township will continue its aggressive program to improve infrastructure, particularly in the areas of stormwater management, street paving and recreation. Some voters who reside in Upper Southampton's North 3 voting district were forced to wait a little longer than this morning to cast their ballots, after one of the two voting machines at their polling place malfunctioned.
A voting machine malfunctioned soon after the polls opened Tuesday morning at Davis Elementary School. “There was just a glitch,” said Kevin Kennedy, the judge of elections at the polling location. “Someone pressed the wrong button and the machine locked up.” The problem occurred with a machine recording votes for the North 3 district. That region is comprised of voters residing in the northwest portion of Upper Southampton, bordering of both Northampton and Warminster Townships. Kennedy said a representative from the Bucks County Board of Elections was called in to resolve the problem, and the machine was back in service within an hour. All of Upper Southampton's 10 polling places will be ready for voters Tuesday.
Much alike most of Bucks County, Upper Southampton Township's polling places were not changed by Hurricane Sandy. The 10 polling places throughout Upper Southampton Township remain the same, according to the Bucks County Board of Elections website. Polls will be open for voting from 7 a.m to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6. For a map of the voting districts in Upper Southampton, or to view sample ballots, see the .pdf section of this article. Crews have been working to finish the playground and construction is expected to be completed by Monday.
The completion of the playground at Veterans' Field rounds out the $1M renevation project at the Street Road Complex. Crews have been working to finish the playground and construction is expected to be completed by Monday. The fence around the field has been installed and the snack stand is open. In fact, the only item left on the punch list for the project is the relocation of the Veterans' Memorial from the corner of Street Road and Second Street Pike to its new home at the field. Township supervisors voted Tuesday to hold an informal ribbon-cutting ceremony on Veterans' Day (Sunday, Nov. 11) with a larger, more formal ceremony to follow on Memorial Day 2013. The total cost of the playground is approximately $47,000.

The Labor Day holiday will push back the scheduled collection of yard waste and trash across the township.
If your planning on cleaning up outside this holiday weekend, you will have an extra day to gather your yard waste and haul it to the curb. Due to the Labor Day holiday, yard waste will not be collected on Monday. Instead, yard waste will be collected on Tuesday, Sept. 4 Labor Day is one of six holidays that affects rubbish collection across the township. Next week's trash collection will also be pushed back. Instead of the usual Friday collection, trash and recyclables will be collected in Upper Southampton Township on Saturday, Sept. 8.
