Graduation Project Revisions OK'd for Tennent

The Centennial School Board recently approved graduation project changes beginning with the William Tennent High School class of 2014.

In order to graduate from William Tennent High School, students will need to complete college preparatory tasks throughout their high school career under graduation project revisions approved recently. The Centennial School Board adopted the changes, which are applicable beginning with the class of 2014, at its meeting last week.  Assistant Superintendent Joyce Mundy said that in the past, the graduation project was "largely completed during a required class." "We are moving this from the class to an independent process for students that is supported by our faculty and administration," Mundy said. "The plan allows our process to be scaffolded over the four years with the development of core artifacts for career and college readiness." …

Well as a parent of a student in the class of 2014, I am glad they have finally gotten their act together enough to approve SOMETHING! It is inexcusable the way they have kept this class hanging all year. My only comment on the new "plan" is that it sounds like they are doing away with the graduation project and simply adding token steps for the kids to achieve on the way to graduation, all of …   more ›

William Tennent Not Among Top US High Schools, Newsweek Says

Do you think WTHS is a top school?

Newsweek recently ranked the top 2000 high schools in the United States; William Tennent High School did not make the list.  For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the U.S., with about 2,500 schools responding. You can see the details about the schools in our area that made the cut by clicking on the markers in the interactive map above. The survey scores were then weighted and calculated using several criteria, including on-time graduation and college acceptance rates. In addition, instead of averaging the number of courses offered, this year Newsweek considered the percentage of students enrolled in AP, IB or Advance International Certificate courses. I was fortunate enough to not attend Tennent and did attend a very good college. However when I was looking for a better education system for my children,I was mistaken in thinking that Centennial was the better choose in all of bucks county. To my dismay, I have found wonderful teachers who are hampered by a school board that are more concerned with social status symbols than educational values…   more ›

WTHS Graduation Set for June 20

This will also be the last day of school for all students across Centennial School District.

The Centennial Board of School Directors officially approved the last day of school for all of the district's students Tuesday evening. The last day of classes for students throughout the district will be Thursday, June 20. This will also be the graduation date for seniors at William Tennent High School. The last day of school will be a half-day for all students, Kindergarten through 12th grade; there will be no afternoon Kindergarten sessions. 

WTHS Presents 'West Side Story'

Three performances will be held in the high school's auditorium this weekend.

The students of William Tennent High School will perform 'West Side Story' this weekend. Three performances will be held this weekend: Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. "We have an amazing amount of talent within this group," said Director Julie Flack. "We are excited about the performances." Tickets are available at the door. The box office will open one half-hour before each performance. Cost is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students. Black Royals Lead White Legends Following Pool Night

The Black Royals quickly came back and then took the lead during William Tennent High School's Black and White Night's aquatic events Thursday evening.

The White Legends were in the lead following Wednesday's academic competition, but the Black Royals quickly built their score up high enough to take the lead during the Pool Night portion of WTHS' Black and White Night competition Thursday.  The final score for the evening: Black 150, White 128. Gym Night this evening will close out this year's Black and White Night festivities.  The fun begins this evening at 6:30 p.m. in the WTHS Gymnasium. Doors open for seating at 5:30 p.m.  Opening Ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m. Check out the official score card from Thursday's activities in the photo gallery.
