Officers Honored for Stephen Way Rescue

Members of the Upper Southampton Police Department received commendations at last week's board of supervisors meeting.

When a house on Stephen Way caught fire last November, the homeowner refused to leave his home as it burned around him. It took the efforts of five police officers and additional fire department personnel to enter the house's rear basement entrance, find the resident and carry him outside to safety. Those officers and other members of the Upper Southampton Police Department received citations and commendations for their efforts to maintain public safety at the township's board of supervisors meeting last week. Officers and Citizens Recognized with Awards

The Upper Southampton Police Department handed out several commendations during its first awards ceremony Tuesday evening.

Several police officers and two citizens received commendations at the first annual Upper Southampton Police Department awards ceremony. Chief of Police Ron MacPherson distributed the awards during the 20-minute ceremony held amidst the township’s board of supervisors meeting Tuesday evening. MacPherson said with so much of police work being focused on the negative, he wanted to do something to highlight the positive as well as recognize members of the department for a job well done. The officers, who were nominated for the awards by their peers, were presented with a certificate as well as a bar pin for their uniform.
