Coincidentally, the Concerned Gun Owners of Bucks County met during a shootout at the Jefferson on the Creek apartment complex in Warminster on Tuesday.
As police officers began a seven-hour stand-off Tuesday night with alleged gunman Andrew Cairns, which included an exchange of gunfire that resulted in the death of 85-year-old Marie Zienkewicz, a meeting of the Concerned Gun Owners of Bucks County was in session a few blocks away at the Warminster VFW. The group formed shortly after President Barack Obama announced his proposals aimed at curbing gun violence in America, formed in reaction to the Sandy Hook shooting that killed 26 people, mostly first-graders. Tuesday night was the second time the organization met, attracting more than 300 attendees to the standing-room only event, acording to organization member William Marsh. One resident of the apartment complex in Warminster where a shootout with police took place Tuesday says it's rare for police to come to the quiet area.
Ashley Smith was on her way home Tuesday night from Newtown, where she works at a hair salon, when her husband, Zach, called and told her that police have blocked the entrances to the Jefferson on the Creek apartments where they live. "I got as far as the 7-Eleven on Davisville and Maple," Smith said. "Zach was in lockdown at the apartment with our dog, and he kept me updated about what was going on." What he described was the major police activity happening right outside their door as township and county tactical forces surrounded one of the units at the apartment complex where police say Andrew Cairns, 49, barricaded himself in his second floor apartment and shot at officers. Were you at Jefferson on the Creek during the standoff? What …
Police said during an exchange of gunfire, a downstairs neighbor of the alleged gunman in a Warminster apartment was struck and killed from her wounds at the scene.
Editor's Note: The victim of the shooting has been identified as Marie Zienkewicz, who was 89. A previous version of this story reported that she was 90. An 89-year-old neighbor of the man involved in a shootout with police at a Warminster apartment complex Tuesday evening was killed in the crossfire, officials said. Warminster Chief of Police Michael Murphy would not immediately release the victim's name, as she had not yet been positively identified by the coroner. Murphy said her family, however, had been notified. At this time, it is unclear how the woman got shot. According to Murphy, the gunman, Andrew Graham Cairns, 49, surrendered to police at approximately 2:30 a.m. Murphy said the incident began around 4 p.m. Tuesday, when police…

Members of the Southampton Fire Co. helped cover the call for Warminster crews, who were busy responding to another call.
An underground transformer fire at the Jefferson on the Creek apartment complex drew engines from surrounding municipalities Wednesday evening Departments from Hatboro, Upper Southampton, Warrington and Willow Grove answered the call tht went out at 7:14 pm. According to Warminster Fire Chief Mitch Shapiro, the blaze could not be extinguished until PECO cut the power to the transformer. After a service truck arrived at 7:30 p.m., the fire was smothered with dry chemicals and under control within ten minutes, Shapiro said. The fire burnt some bricks on the side of building 300, but none of the interior units were damaged and no injuries were reported. A PECO worker on the scene said that an adjacent building served by the same transformer …
