Former U.S. Poet Laureate to Read at BCCC

Charles Simic, the 15th Poet Laureate of the United States, will read his award-winning poems Friday at Bucks County Community College.

  Charles Simic, the 15th Poet Laureate of the United States, will share his award-winning poetry this Friday at Bucks County Community College. The event, which is part of the Wordsmiths Reading Series, begins at 7:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public.  Born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, Simic emigrated to the U.S. in 1953 at the age of 15. He has lived in New York City, Chicago, the San Francisco area, and for many years in New Hampshire, where he was a professor of English at the University of New Hampshire. The poet, essayist, and translator has been honored with the Frost Medal, the Wallace Stevens Award, a Pulitzer Prize, two PEN Awards for his work as a translator and a MacArthur Fellowship. BCCC Names 2012 Bucks County Poet Laureate

Lara Adams of Chalfont has been selected as the 2012 Bucks County Poet Laureate.

Chalfont resident Lara Adams Gaydos has been named the 36th Bucks County Poet Laureate by officials at Bucks County Community College. Gaydos will give her first reading as 2012 Bucks County Poet Laureate at 2 p.m. on Dec. 1 in the Orangery at Bucks County Community College's Newtown Campus. In addition to the inaugural reading, Gaydos receives a $500 award and a proclamation from the Bucks County Commissioners.  Gaydos grew up in a house full of writers. Her father, Thomas E. Adams, won an O. Henry award for a short story in 1962 and her mother, Patricia Ann Adams, was a poet. “I was surrounded by it, but I didn’t think about writing as a career.” Instead, Gaydos graduated summa cum laude from Rutgers University in 1994 with a degree in …
