The Southampton Community Band opens its 2012-2013 concert series with a program theme “No Passport Needed” at Friday, Nov. 10 at 8 p.m.
“The band is excited about this program because of the variety of music that is presented,” said band director Marvin Feld.
Selections include Ravel’s Bolero, a medley from Man of La Mancha, and the east coast premier of a movement from Klezmer Suite.
Performing with the band is soloist Ken Ulansey. Ulansey has toured extensively in the United States and Europe.
“I found each nation’s culture to be a deep well, and the music of each one worth a life’s study," he said. “Returning home, I fell into an exploration of the music of my own culture, the klezmer music of the Eastern European Jews, while maintaining a curiosity of the Arabic and Hindu worlds”.
Ulansey has recorded over 100 records and CDs., and has received awards and grants in performance or composition from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and the Philadelphia Music Foundation.
Additional programs for this season will be held on January 19, March 23, and May 11.
Tickets are available at the door: $15.00 for adults and $10 for students and seniors.
