Police Respond to Miller Drive for Report of Suspicious Man

Neighbors in the area of Miller Drive and Williams Drive called police Tuesday evening to report "a suspicious man knocking on doors."

The man had reportedly been seen wandering aimlessly through the neighborhood for several hours, knocking on the doors of various residences.

One resident told Patch of his experience with the individual:

"It was strange. He knocked, I answered, and then when I asked him what he wanted, he really didn't seem to know. I felt like the entire time he was talking to me he was looking past me, eyeing up the contents of my house."

Last month police in neighboring Lower Moreland Township used the nixle.com service to alert residents to a surge in daytime burglaries.

They advised residents to be on the lookout for anyone suspicious in the neighborhood, as it was not uncommon for burglars to knock on the front door to see if anyone is home.

"If someone answers, they make up a story about why they are there. If nobody answers, they go around to the back of the house and force entry," the alert read. 

Upper Southampton Police Chief Ron MacPherson said when officers responded to the area early Tuesday evening, they encountered a young, black male who said he was in the area soliciting door-to-door for Power Home Remodeling.

MacPherson said officers approached the man and asked to see his permit, and when he could not produce one, they sent him on his way.

According to MacPherson, there is a home in the vicinity with a Power Home Remodeling sign on the front lawn. He said it is not uncommon for companies to solicit other neighbors when they are working in the area.

"Bottom line - community members should ask to see a permit, and if none is produced call us," he said.
