A Tribute to Service at Southampton Days Flag-Raising Ceremony

The Southampton Days Committee honored those who have served our county and our community at a flag-raising ceremony July 4.

Shannon McMullen, of Huntingdon Valley, sang the national anthem at the Flag-raising ceremony on Wednesday, July 4.

Honored at the ceremony were:

  • Chief Petty Officer Marc Willard - Willard served in Vietnam from 1965-69, before serving in the Navy Reserve from 1972 until 1993. He is a member of the Guardians of the National Cemetery in Washington's Crossing and is currently the Commander of American Legion Pennypack Post 800 in Southampton.
  • Ret. Staff Sgt. William Clark, a World War II veteran who was shot down while flying in a B17 over Germany. He was held as a prisoner of war for over a year before escaping during a work detail by jumping in a river, only to return to continue to fight for the allied forces.
  • Mr. George Frazier, one of five remaining survivors of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
